Ham, Celery and Cheese Strata
Makes 4 to 6 servings.
Ingredients:
2 cups celery in 1/2″ slices
Salt
8 slices, firm-type bread, crusts trimmed
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
2 cups finely diced ham
4 eggs, slightly beaten
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons minced onion
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
Directions:
Cook Celery in small amount of boiling salted water 8 to 10 minutes; drain. Cut a 2″ round from each slice of bread. Crumble remainder in shallow 1 1/2-quart baking dish and sprinkle with the cheese. Cover with celery, then ham and top with bread circles. Mix remaining ingredients and pour on top. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour. Then bake in moderate oven (350°F) 1 hour, or until firm and lightly browned.
